Dark Lip Neutralization in NYC

Lip neutralization — also called dark lip blushing or dark lip correction — lightens dark, uneven or cool-toned lips, including smoker’s lips, toward a warmer, natural color. It is the most difficult lip technique to execute and requires a highly skilled artist.

Dark Lip Neutralization by New Face by Christine

About the treatment

What you see in the ink bottle is not what heals in the skin — this is science. Pigments that look pink can heal dark on lips that are considered “dark”: a noticeably darker top lip or darker outer corners, many African American, Black, Hispanic, Asian and mixed backgrounds, and lips with cold “blue” or “purple” undertones.

I was one of the first artists in Manhattan to work on melanated skin and dark lips, long before it was common, and it is still at the heart of my work.

I use safe pigments that focus on lightening the lips and correcting cold undertones. The goal end colors are beige, lighter tan, pink or peachy. Results typically last 3+ years.

Dark lips treatment for smoker’s lips and uneven color

Many people don’t know the word “neutralization”: they look for a dark lips treatment because their top lip is darker, the corners are darker, or smoking has left their lips dark or purple. This is the treatment for that.

I lighten the dark areas and correct cold undertones first. Once the lips are even and warm, they can be finished with a soft lip blush if you want more color.

Please keep in mind

This technique requires 2+ sessions. We monitor progress one session at a time, with 2 months between sessions. I do my absolute best to reach your desired end color, but it cannot be controlled as precisely as a regular lip blush.

Questions

Dark Lip Neutralization: your questions.

How much does dark lip neutralization cost?

$1,200, with one touchup included if it is scheduled within 1 year. A $275 deposit holds your appointment and is applied to your total.

How many sessions does lip neutralization take?

2 or more. I monitor progress one session at a time, with 2 months between sessions.

What color will my lips be?

The goal end colors are beige, lighter tan, pink or peachy. Your own skin tone decides whether we can reach a pink, rosy tone or whether it is more of a lightening treatment. I do my best to reach your desired color, but it cannot be controlled as precisely as a regular lip blush.

What is the difference between lip neutralization and lip blush?

Lip blush adds color to lips. Neutralization first lightens dark areas and corrects blue or purple undertones, because pink pigments can heal dark on darker lips. Many clients do neutralization first and a lip blush after.

Does it work on smoker’s lips and on men?

Yes. Most of my male clients come for dark lips caused by smoking. See men’s lips.

How long does it last and how long is healing?

Results typically last 3+ years. Lips usually take about 5–7 days to scab and finish peeling.

Booking policies

Before you book.

Clear policies keep the schedule fair for everyone — please read them before requesting your appointment.

Deposits

A non-refundable deposit reserves your appointment and is applied to your service price. It stays valid for one year. The only exception: if your doctor advises against the procedure, your deposit is refunded.

Changes, cancellations & no-shows

Reschedule or cancel online, with your “Manage my appointment” link, at least 24 hours before your appointment — up to two changes per deposit. Less than 24 hours before, it can’t be changed and a new date needs a new deposit. Not showing up, arriving more than 20 minutes late, or arriving with an active cold sore, flare-up or broken skin forfeits the deposit. You’ll get a confirmation and a reminder before your visit.

Payment & tax

Pay your deposit online by card or Apple Pay. Your card is saved securely by Stripe and the balance (plus any tip you choose) is charged to it at the end of your appointment — or pay with a QR code, including Klarna or Affirm to pay over time. New York State sales tax on permanent makeup (4.5%) is added to all prices.

The studio

By appointment only — no walk-ins. For safety and concentration, no guests or children are allowed in the treatment room.

Eligibility

Not possible while pregnant or breastfeeding, or within 6 months of taking Accutane. Some conditions — such as cancer, a serious illness, a clotting disorder, or thyroid, diabetes or blood-pressure conditions — need a letter from your doctor. Cold sores, blood thinners and skin conditions need some preparation, and the area must be clear on the day. The booking form walks you through it.
